The "A Secret Legacy" team would like to wish all of our supporters a Happy New Year. We made a lot of progress this year, and were able to film a good portion of the film. After our next shoot in February, we will be about 90% done with filming. It's been hard work, but also very rewarding. Thanks again to all of our 2013 supporters for making it happen!

Thank you again to our sponsor MATUSALEM RUM for helping us throw a great Fundraiser on October 24th in Miami.
We really appreciate the support and contributions of all of our guests and donors! To check out the 1.5 min video from the party, CLICK HERE (shot and edited by Nicolas Ros at Pro-Touch Production) A big THANK YOU to everyone who attended and donated during the fundraiser on October 24. Stay tuned for more updates about the filming! Feel free to click through the photographs from the party below. (Photos By Bello) Check out the piece about our fundraiser that aired on Marti TV (it's in spanish!) It was a good piece, although I want to state that they got some of their facts mixed up (they called Capt. Amado Cantillo "Alfredo Cepero", and they said that Panchito disappeared in the Congo, they said that Frank's father was part of the group that fought Che) But otherwise, I'm very happy for the exposure for A Secret Legacy! Click here for the link, or click on the video below Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support "A Secret Legacy" fundraiser Thursday night. We had an estimated 180 guests! Many of those who were not able to attend also provided donations online. Due to the generous donations of all our supporters, WE HIT OUR TARGET GOAL! We are now able to do 5 filming days in Miami in January, as well as 10 days for editing. A Special Thanks to NBC 6 reporter Hank Tester for speaking at the event, as well as to Capt. Fred Flaquer and Capt. Amado Cantillo for their attendance. Fred and Amado were both Veterans of the Congo Operation, and were welcomed to the stage with a standing ovation! If you know anyone else who would like to donate to this project and help tell this story, Click on our donation page To see some photos for the event, Go to our Facebook page (we will post more photos soon!) Picture it: Cuban exiles, hired by the CIA, fighting communism in Africa’s Congo. Sounds like a crazy Hollywood plot, right? But it’s a true story — one you can help bring to completion. The incredible story of men taking on communism is the center of the documentary A Secret Legacy: Cuban Exiles, the CIA and the Congo Crisis. The film, sponsored by the nonprofit Independent Filmmaker Project, was directed by Sandra Alvarez-Smith, who has close ties to the story — her grandfather was one of the veterans involved in the crisis. The film’s team will host a fundraiser for the A Secret Legacy this Thursday at the CubaOcho Art and Research Center (1465 SW Eighth St., Miami). The event, sponsored by Matusalem Rum, aims to be a fun night out for arts supporters. From 7 to 10 p.m., attendees can watch a “top-secret” screening, listen to live Cuban music by Miami Son and El Ritmo Alonso, enjoy drinks and appetizers, and enter to win raffle prizes from local vendors.
