Below is an interesting article on the "Simbas," the Congolese rebels who the Cuban-Exiles fought against in the 1960's. Before going to war, these guys would ingest marijuana and other herbs they believed would protect them from being shot by their enemies.

The following is an excerpt of an interview we did with Reginaldo Blanco (a Cuban-Exile veteran of the CIA/Congo Operation). Blanco is referencing a conversation that he had with CIA Officer Rip Robertson about the Simbas:
"So he wanted me to tell them how [the Simbas] fought. I remember he used to talk half in English and half in Spanish. He came to me and he said 'How do they fight?' And I said, 'What do you want me to tell you, they come screaming and yelling against us'...So he laughed and so on. Then he said, 'Are they a real menace?' And I said 'If you have a good weapon I do not think they are a menace. I mean they are so high on grass and they just just come out dancing.' - REGINALDO BLANCO, CIA/CONGO OPERATION VETERAN
